Important AS/NZS3000:2007 Standards Information

Thursday, December 18, 2008

For your information:

AS/NZS3000:2007 is the standard for all electrical wiring work and all electrical installations that must comply to, through government legislation. It is not a guide line for installation, it is the law and people have been charged by the relative regulators for not complying with it.

Page 8:
States that electrical work commenced after the publication date of the standard, should comply to the 2007 edition, it also states that it’s not mandatory for 6 months from the date of publication and permission can be granted for work  commence prior to the publication date that will run pass the 6 month cut off (the permission would have to be granted by the regulator).

The 2007 edition was published on the 12th November 2007, hence it will come into full force on the 12 May 2008 unless you have permission from the regulator to comply to the 2000 Edition.

Clause 3.7.4 from AS/NZS3000:2007 states Installation couplers:
An installation coupler, enclosed or unenclosed, complying with the requirements of AS/NZS 61535, is a suitable method for the electrical connection of cables including flexible cords, flexible cables and rigid (solid or stranded) cables.

NOTES:
1. Installation couplers are intended for permanent connection between sections of wiring, particularly in ‘soft’ wiring systems, and are considered equivalent to a junction box.

2. Installation couplers require a deliberate act to disengage the latching mechanism and are not intended to be engaged or disconnected under load or to be used as socket outlets.

The AS/NZS3000:2007 does not recognize any other installation coupler standard. Installation couplers is the wording used for plug together connector systems.

All CMS Softwiring products comply to AS/NZS3000:2007 and have Certificates of suitability which are available upon request.
